Treatment Description

Relaxation / Swedish Massage

The use of light techniques designed to relax the entire body using long, gliding strokes in direction of blood returning to the heart (pressure can be increased at your request. Deep pressure can also be very relaxing).   It increases oxygen in the blood and improves circulation. Applied to bring about general physical and mental relaxation, reducing the stresses of everyday life.

Deep Tissue / Remedial Massage

Neuromuscular techniques are predominantly used here. These are precise, effective techniques, used within your comfort level to access the various layers of muscles, tendons and ligaments to bring about change.  Highly effective for those with chronic (long-term) pain, headaches/migraines, rehabilitation from an injury, TMJ disfunction, and pain caused by postural distortions and trigger points. This form of massage can be very relaxing and is often preferred over "relaxation" massage.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is geared toward athletes and those that participate in sporting activities.  It is closely correlated to deep tissue / remedial massage where it is applied with the specific sport / activity in mind.  It can be pre-event, post-event or maintenance massage.  Great for injury prevention  / recovery, and can increase performance by optimising the body's function through correcting muscle imbalances and postural distortions.

Pregnancy Massage

Massage therapy is a safe method to manage pregnancy discomforts.  However, it is not recommended in your first trimester of pregnancy. You will be positioned side-lying with the essential cushion support for comfort.  Postpartum massage is also highly recommended to assist in reversing postural changes that occur during pregnancy, help with "baby blues", and ease aches and pains caused by carrying, lifting and feeding,

Myofascial Release (MFR)

MFR techniques target fascia, a framework of connective tissue. It uses gentle and sustained pressure usually without oil.  Cupping can also be used here either without oil (cup is placed and left on an adhered area) or with oil (cup is glided over fascia and muscle). These techniques stimulate structures that send signals to the brain to relax tight muscle fibres. The fascia rehydrates, softens, and lengthens. MFR may also improve lymphatic flow as tight fascia can compress lymphatic vessels.

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching

PNF stretching uses your body’s own reflexes to relax your muscles and achieve a deeper, more effective stretch. You first contract a muscle against the therapist's resistance before relaxing and stretching it. This initial contraction sends a signal to your brain. In response, your nervous system triggers a reflex that tells the muscle to relax more deeply than it normally would.  An effective technique to use within a massage session to increase flexibility.
